Hydrojetting Clogged Drains

Orange Coast Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning service technicians are experts in fixing a multitude of Residential and Commercial Drain problems. Our experienced technicians can fix the toughest clogs and clean your drains with hydrojetting (High pressure machines that are used to aggressively clean drain and sewer lines). Here are just a few of the benefits of our high pressure drain cleaning services:

Effective Clog Removal

Stubborn clogs due to grease, oil, hair, soap, paper, toys and possibly even sand residue, are very difficult to unclog using traditional cleaning methods. High pressure hydro jetting will effectively remove all clogs, including those which have previously resisted snaking lines and supermarket drain cleaning products.

Eco-friendly Clog Removal

Drain cleaning products contribute to the Earth’s growing pollution problem and can also harm your plumbing pipes. Powerful high pressure hydro jets are very effective at removing drain clogs and the method is also very safe on the environment too. No chemicals are used, the high pressure hydro jetting will clear all the materials which are contributing to drain clog formation. An intense high pressure water cleaning job will ensure 100% drain cleaning and clog removal.

Affordable Clog Removal

Removing clogs with high pressure water jetting is one of the most affordable ways to eliminate the most difficult clogs. Hydrojetting is a super fast process which saves a lot of time compared to traditional clog removal methods. Since clogs will not return anytime soon, clients save even more because repeated treatments are no longer needed to keep drain pipes clear.

Top Reasons For Home Renovations

From years of experience with home remodeling, we’ve noticed some common reasons why home owners move forward with a renovation project.
The top 5 reasons are:

1- Increasing Room Space Use

Many of our clients remodel their homes to increase space in their living area. Usually this is done to create a more open and welcoming environment or to accommodate a growing family.

2- Increase Home Value

A home renovation can have a large effect on a home’s value. Some of our clients are renovating to increase their home’s appeal before it is put on the market, while others choose to renovate to increase personal or family investments.

3- Updating a Home’s Appearance

A home renovation can reflect your personal style. In line with the current trend of simplifying and minimalistic living space, the Contemporary style is very popular with some of our clients. A home renovation can help transform your house into the look and feel of the modern home. For more traditional remodels, creating receiving foyers and installing warm hardwood floors are available for homeowners who want to achieve a classic looking décor.

4- Creating an Energy Efficient Home

A common renovation is to make your home energy efficient. Installing energy efficient appliances, windows, doors and water heating systems, and upgrading a home’s heating and air conditioning systems are a practical way to cut down on energy costs. This savings will pay for themselves in the years to come.

5- Replacing Broken or Worn Components

Finally, many home remodeling and renovation projects are made to replace broken and worn down components and systems in the home. Orange Coast Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning will be there for you every step of the way, using top quality materials that will last for many years to come.

Ductless Mini-Split Air Conditioning Units

Central air conditioning is the standard system for cooling your home, but sometimes it isn’t possible to install the duct work. In cases like this your option is to use a ductless mini-split Air conditioning unit to keep your home cool.

Reasons To Use Ductless AC

Older homes were not designed to accommodate central air systems and their crawl space won’t allow room for the placement of air ducts. In some older houses, the electrical system would need a power upgrade to utilize an air cooling system. The cost for such an undertaking might not be feasible for some incomes, so a mini-split AC unit is a practical option. A ductless mini-split unit may also be the perfect choice for a rental property. Mini-split systems will give tenants cool air for the summer time without and energy bill eating away from your profit margin.

How Does A Mini-Split AC Unit Work?

The ductless mini-split system does not use a duct system to function like central air conditioning does. Controlled by a thermostat, the cool air comes from the interior unit. There are only two small connections going to the exterior unit, the first one to control the electrical supply and the second connection to remove water from the interior unit. A single unit is capable of cooling a home, however in order to provide the level of individual room cooling that most people are accustomed to, multiple units can be used.

Benefits Of Installing Mini-Split Units

There is a substantial difference in the cost of installing a ductless mini-split versus a central air conditioning system, but that is only one of the benefits:

Environmentally Friendly

The EPA has estimated that central air conditioning ducts are responsible for up to 30 percent of a system’s energy loss, which means you would be saving on energy costs with a mini-split unit.

Zone Cooling Control

Installing a one or more ductless mini-split AC units allows you to even out the distribution of cool air, or supplement the areas your existing air cooling system doesn’t reach.

Ready To Assist You

When you are ready to stop relying on floor fans and window units to subtly cool things down during the warmer months, Orange Coast Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning can show you how a ductless mini-split AC unit can be a cost effective way to cool down your home. During our appointment, we can discuss with you how many cooling zones would be the most appropriate for your family. By installing multiple cooling units, we can eliminate having hot and cold spots to make sure everyone in your home is comfortable.

Who Should be Concerned about Indoor Air Quality?

The average person spends about 90 percent of his or her time indoors, according to the EPA, no one should overlook the importance of indoor air quality. Common health effects related to the exposure of poor indoor air quality include headaches, dizziness, nausea, allergy attacks, and irritation of the nose, eyes, throat, and lungs.

People with allergies. While most people with allergies stay indoors to mainly avoid pollen and spores, indoor air quality may not be much better, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. Eight out of ten people are estimated to have house dust mites and six out of ten are regularly exposed to pet dander.

People with asthma. The air quality in a house is critical to someone with asthma because there are a lot of conditions that trigger asthma attacks, according to the EPA. Triggers vary differently from person to person, but dust mites, mold spores, pets, household irritants and second-hand smoke are common triggers, according to the EPA. The most important thing you can do is find and control asthma triggers.

People with upper respiratory conditions.Someone who is battling an upper respiratory infection or simply has upper respiratory congestion, poor indoor air quality can make their condition significantly unmanageable.

We Can Help Improve Air Quality

Pollens are difficult to avoid, as they cannot be eliminated from the atmosphere but there are a number of ways we can help you improve the quality of the air in your home and lessen the exposure to such triggers. We’re happy to talk to you about our products that could make things a lot more comfortable in your home. Here are a few possibilities:

Home air cleaners. We can install a home air cleaner that will work to remove pollen, bacteria, mold and mildew and dust mites from the air. A home air cleaner installs directly to your heating and cooling system. They are designed to clean and purify the air you breathe in your home. Unlike filters, which must be cleaned or replaced every few months, a home air cleaner only requires yearly maintenance.

HEPA Filters. You can increase the amount of indoor pollution filtered out by your air and heating systems by using HEPA filters. These High Efficiency Particulate Air filters are designed to trap a greater percentage of the microscopic particulates floating through your home.

Home Humidifiers. Maintaining a humidity levels between 40 and 60 percent in your home is recommended by the EPA. When the air is too dry, that can aggravate respiratory conditions. Regular exposure to dry air makes your throat dry and scratchy and can make it more likely that your family develops colds or the flu. A home humidifier is another way to improve your home’s indoor air quality.

The Warning Signs of a Dying Air Conditioning System

Most people fail to follow the maintenance regimens recommended by their system’s manufacturer and their current cooling system begins to fail. The difficult question for any household is when is it the right time to replace the air conditioning system? On the one hand, you don’t want to give up on a central air system that’s still working. But you also don’t want to be without a functioning air conditioning unit when hot weather arrives. Once you get these warning signs from your A/C system, it’s time to give us a call.

The Age Of Your System

AC systems aren’t built to last forever. Though some cooling systems do last longer, the chances for problems increases and it may be to your benefit to upgrade to a newer, more efficient AC system. Most experts, including the officials at EnergyStar.gov, say that an AC system that’s nearly 10 years old, or older, could be ripe for failure.

Spike In Utility Bills

Older cooling systems typically have lower SEER ratings than today’s systems, causing homeowners higher utility bills. If your cooling costs are rising without any change in usage patterns, the most likely culprit is an AC system struggling to cool your home.

Uneven Cooling

One of the most common complaints heard by owners is that they experience uneven levels of cooling in various parts of their home. Poor equipment operation could be the problem when different areas of your home are noticeably cooler than others.

If your heating system is struggling to keep your entire home cool, it may be a clear indication that its time to replace your aging heating system.

Signs Of Moisture

If you see signs of condensation in the duct system, moisture that wasn’t previously present is a sure sign that the system either needs to be fixed or replaced. In cooling system often more than ten years old, a few of the components no longer work at peak performance. This dramatically lowers the system ability to remove moisture.

Odd Noises

Are you noticing strange sounds coming from your cooling system or other loud noises that you’ve never heard before? Over time, vibrations that occur while the system is running may cause the joints inside the system to crack and leak. Sometimes, unusual noises also signal the need for repairs, but we’ll come out and let you never whether it’s time to buy a new system or not.

Frequent Repairs

A unit that is already beginning to show signs of failure will often need more and more repairs. Making the repairs to older air conditioning units can be quite expensive, as many air conditioning parts may have been discontinued. If you had to repair your cooling system on two or more occasions in the past year, it may be in poor condition and may need to be replaced.

How cooling system credits and rebates work

At Orange Coast Plumbing, we know that the price to replace or upgrade your air-conditioning system can seem prohibitive. Fortunately, federal tax credits and utility rebates exist, as well as state and local programs that can help you reduce the cost and financial impact of purchasing a new cooling system for your home.

To be eligible for any tax credits or rebates, new systems must meet minimum energy efficiency standards. The exact numbers differ between product categories – split package cooling systems or packaged cooling systems – but the products we carry all meet these requirements. Split packages are A/C systems with part of the unit inside the structure, and part (usually the compressor) outside the building. Packaged systems are units that combine both cooling and heating capabilities.

The rating systems are EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) and SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio). EER is a measurement of British Thermal Units/Hour (BTUH) divided by power (Watts) used. The higher the number, the more efficient the system. The SEER rating uses the same formula, but it also factors in seasonal cooling ability. As with EER, the higher the number, the more efficient the system. The following standards currently apply:

split systems must have minimum SEER of 16, and a minimum EER of 13

Packaged systems must meet minimum requirements for SEER of 14 and an EER of 12

Currently available federal tax credits for Split and Packaged systems:

Residential Energy Property Credit

This credit exists for those who make energy efficient improvements to their home. In addition to being claimed for air-conditioning systems, it can also be applied for insulation upgrades, and energy efficient windows.

Residential Energy Efficient Property Credit

This credit has a narrower focus, but it can be used in conjunction with your A/C upgrade if you package it with wind turbines, solar panels, and/or geothermal heat pumps (for packaged systems).

Other cooling system incentives

Local utility companies offer a number of discounts and coupons that can be applied toward the purchase of new energy efficient cooling systems. In addition, many municipalities offer tax incentives to recycle old air-conditioning units, and air-conditioning manufacturers have rebate programs, discount coupons, and other incentives to purchase a new cooling or heating and cooling system.

Because many of the parameters of the programs are in a state of flux, they change (depending on the season and other variables), which makes keeping up with them quite difficult. As a service to our customers, we maintain a constantly updated list of what discounts, credits, and rebates are available so you can take advantage of all the opportunities available.

The cost of purchasing a new cooling system for your home is an expensive proposition. To mitigate your costs, federal tax credits and utility rebates as well as other programs exist to reduce these costs, and to help you afford a new energy-efficient system. At Orange Coast Plumbing, we will do everything we can to find all the cost saving programs for you, so you don’t have to suffer in the heat.

Why consider Trenchless Sewer Repair?

Trenchless sewer repair avoids all the large scale excavating that traditional dig ups are known for. With traditional dig ups the headache and cost of replacing expensive wood flooring or tile is minimized or even non-existent. Why deal with all the dirt, dust, and noise making an appearance while the excavation is going on when there isn’t a need for it.

Trenchless methods offer a way to replace the sewer line with continuous smooth pipe that does not allow the pipe to develop offsets or openings for roots to grow into. Moreover, Trenchless methods reduce the immediate work area to only a few different zones as opposed to a large open ditch with support backfill or even shoring equipment taking up all the space. Let our experienced sewer experts give you the peace of mind of a properly pulled or lined sewer.

Pipe Bursting/Sewer Line Pulling

Another method of fixing a sewer line is to dig up the start of the problem line and the end of the problem line. Afterwards, we burst the defective line using hydraulic equipment that at the same time is pulling new sewer line.

In the end, the holes are backfilled and covered leaving only those two points as evidence to the repair. This method is good for use in yards, under planters, expensive landscaping, and commercial buildings as the evidence of the work is easy to disguise or remove. Unfortunately, in some homes it can be problematic to replace the flooring or match tile, nonetheless, this method is still a viable option.

Trenchless Pipe Lining

The last method for fixing a sewer line doesn’t always require any digging, jackhammering, and leaves the floor untouched. First, we hydrojet the line to clean it of any debris. Next, we locate an existing cleanout or opening into the line, insert a special IAPMO approved hollow sleeve that will be hardened using a special epoxy resin and then expand the sleeve to conform to the shape of the original sewer line. The end result leaves a new seamless line inside the old that works just as well as a new one.

Your heating and cooling system is an important part of your household and you don’t want to be running one that’s well past its prime. That being said, most households have no idea how to tell when it’s time to replace their heating system. Fortunately, here are a few of the many factors to consider when determining if it’s time to purchase a new heating system:

1. Excessive repairs

We can help you determine what are normal repairs and when that crosses over into the area of chronic repairs. We try to help customers avoid some of the additional costs that aging heating systems can cause through frequent repairs.

2. Uneven home temperature

Poor equipment operation, duct problems and inadequate insulation could be the problem when different areas of your home are noticeably cooler than others. If your heating system is struggling to keep your entire home warm, it may be a clear indication that its time to replace your aging heating system.

3. Higher utility bills

In addition to the physical discomfort you experience when your heating system isn’t working properly, consider the financial cost you may be incurring! The harder your system has to work, the more energy it consumes and with energy prices on the rise you could be wasting hundreds of dollars every year.

Choices for a New Heating System

Heat pump. A heat pump is essentially and air conditioner that can heat and cool a house. The heat pump extracts the warmth found outside your house and then transfers the heat through a system of air ducts in your home.

Boiler. This type of system consists of a sealed chamber that converts water to steam and the heated water is distributed throughout the house by a system of radiators, heaters or through the floors.

Furnace. A furnace has an enclosed unit that transfers heat in a metal combustion chamber to the air ducts that distribute the air throughout the home. A furnace can rely on natural gas, propane or electricity.

After you’ve made the decision to get a new heating and air system and we’ve helped you decide what type of system to choose, we will provide an expert installation process. We will come to your home and provide a free consultation about your specific heating needs and whether your current system is worth retaining.
